About
Ronald Lee Jr. is a dynamic multi-instrumentalist, composer, arranger, and teaching artist dedicated to preserving and advancing the rich traditions of Caribbean music. A versatile performer, Ronald brings both technical mastery and deep cultural understanding to his work, captivating audiences through solo performances, ensemble collaborations, and community-based events.
His musical story began on St. John, U.S. Virgin Islands at the age of 7 years old, joining local steel band “Love City Pan Dragons Steel Orchestra”. From hearing the sweet melodies being produced from the instrument, Ronald was heavily influenced to learn music and began performing with them until he graduated from high school. Enrolling at George Mason University, Ronald studied both steel pan and piano as his primary instruments and is currently holding a BM (Bachelor of Music) degree in Jazz Studies under the tutelage of pianist Wade Beach and steel pannist Prof. Victor Provost, another proud Virgin Islander.
As an educator, Ronald is passionate about using music as a tool for youth development, cultural identity, and creative expression. He continues to work with students of varying ages and abilities, fostering discipline, confidence, and musical literacy through steel pan and piano instruction. His teaching emphasizes rhythm, ensemble playing, composition, and the historical roots of Caribbean music, connecting students to the cultural legacy of the instrument.
Ronald is recognized as a cultural ambassador, immersing the audience with sight sounds and deep heritage of his Caribbean roots throughout the Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, Japan, Antigua, Trinidad and Tobago, and the US mainland. He is pursuing his current plans, which are to arrange, compose and produce music, as well as give back to his small community and teach. Ronald serves as a mentor to many young people in the St. John community, as he tutors and fosters their love
of music.
Ronald Lee Jr.’s work reflects a commitment to excellence, mentorship, and community engagement. Whether on stage or in the classroom, he continues to inspire the next generation of musicians while celebrating the vibrant musical heritage of the Caribbean.
